Scottsdale Group Challenges City's Rezoning Agreement with Axon

Taxpayers Against Awful Apartment Zoning Exemptions (TAAAZE) has filed a lawsuit challenging Scottsdale’s recent rezoning deal with Axon Enterprise, Inc.

The case, now in Maricopa County Superior Court, claims the city’s Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Axon acts as an unofficial zoning change, skirting crucial public review requirements.

TAAAZE argues Scottsdale officials bypassed key steps like a housing impact statement and public hearings, undermining residents’ rights to input.

The group also objects to special allowances for Axon regarding water usage and inspection standards—terms not included in earlier proposals.

Last November, the City Council approved a revised plan letting Axon build 1,200 homes on a 70-acre site near Loop 101 and Hayden Road, scaling back from the original 1,900-unit proposal in response to public feedback.

TAAAZE seeks to overturn the agreement, potentially reshaping Axon’s headquarters project and influencing future Scottsdale zoning policies.
